Itinerary

Day 1: D.H. Lawrence's Arizona
Join us for an exciting new tour concept – a book club on wheels! Drive to the iconic Hassayampa Inn in Prescott Arizona, where famed author D.H. Lawrence once stayed. Tonight at your Welcome Dinner, discuss his book about the Southwest, Mornings in Mexico. (D)
Day 2: Walpi Village & Albuquerque
Breakfast at the hotel before journeying to the Walpi Village, the setting for a famous D.H. Lawrence short story. After lunch, continue on to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tonight, discuss Rudolfo Anaya’s famous book, Albuquerque, over dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 3: Albuquerque & Taos
Explore the local culture at an Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in the morning, before driving on to Taos, New Mexico. Check in to the Hotel la Fonda de Taos, where you’ll find D.H. Lawrence’s famous “Forbidden Art” collection. Tonight, discuss his book St. Mawr over dinner. (B, D)
Day 4: Taos to Santa Fe
In the morning, visit Lawrence’s ranch, where much of St. Mawr was written. Lunch on your own in downtown Taos before journeying on to Santa Fe, the setting for great American author Willa Cather’s masterpiece, Death Comes for the Archbishop. Discuss that book over dinner tonight. (B, D)
Day 5: Santa Fe
Lunch on your on in Santa Fe before driving to the edge of the ominous Petrified Forest. Tonight’s dinner will feature a discussion of playwright Robert Sherwood’s classic, Petrified Forest. (B, D)
Day 6: Scottsdale
End your literary journey on a light note as you roll into Scottsdale. Over a rollicking BBQ dinner at Rustler’s Rooste, share your favorite jokes from Scottsdale native Erma Bombeck’s collection, The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank. (B, D)
Day 7: Home
Head home with a new appreciation for the authors of the Southwest. (B)
