Day 3: Jackson
Travel into Wyoming, an area traversed by many pioneers along the historic emigrant trails. Stop in Kemmerer where you will see where James Cash "JC" Penney opened a dry goods store in 1902 to supply the booming mining town. Your final stop is in Jackson, famous for its Old West atmosphere. Spend the next four nights near the historic downtown. (B)
Day 4: Snake River Float Trip
Enjoy an unforgettable experience on a 10-mile float trip on the Snake River which curves and bends its way across the floor of Jackson Hole with the magnificent Grand Tetons as a backdrop. Later, visit the fascinating National Museum of Wildlife Art which contains more than 2000 paintings, sculptures and photographs that capture the magnificence of the American West. Have the rest of the day and evening free to explore Jackson on your own. (B)
Day 5: Yellowstone National Park
Many scenic delights are in store as you visit America’s oldest and most famous national park, Yellowstone. A magnificent geological showplace, it boasts more geysers and hot springs than the rest of the world put together. A picnic lunch is included during your tour with a local guide who will provide more insight into these natural wonders. The most famous is “Old Faithful” which erupts in a powerful column of hissing and boiling hot steam as it shoots thousands of gallons of water into the sky. (B, L)
Day 6: Grand Teton National Park
Travel to majestic Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Range, with its dozen craggy cloud-high peaks thrusting abruptly from the floor of Jackson Hole, is considered by many to be the most outstanding alpine range in North America. Enjoy lunch at the historic Jackson Lake Lodge in the beautiful Mural Room. It is named for the “Rendezvous Murals” painted by Carl Roters. At one end of the dining room is a glass wall providing panoramic views of Mt. Moran and the Grand Tetons. Return to Jackson for the night. (B, L)
Day 7: Salt Lake City
Make a stop at the National Oregon Trail Center in Montpelier, Idaho, established at the site of the Clover Creek Encampment where travelers would often remain for days to rest up for the next leg of the journey. You will become part of a pioneer wagon company and experience life on the Oregon-California trail of the 1800’s. Return to the 21st century and re-board your motorcoach to travel on to Salt Lake City which lies in a spectacular setting at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. (B, L)
Day 8: Mesquite
Before leaving Salt Lake City, attend the taping by the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The 360-member, all-volunteer choir, was founded in 1847. Since 1929, the choir has performed a weekly radio broadcast called ”Music and the Spoken Word.” A brief city tour will show you some of the highlights. Continue on to Mesquite, Nevada for a farewell dinner and an overnight at the CasaBlanca Resort. (B, D)
