American Railroad Tours by Gadabout Vacations

“Anything is possible on a train,” author Paul Theroux once wrote. “A great meal, a bingo game, a visit from card players, an intrigue…”

That sense of freedom and possibility has made rail travel in America an enjoyable form of leisure travel – more than just basic transportation.

Many people are familiar with Amtrak, but did you know that there are about 700 railroads currently operating on 150,000 miles of track in the United States?

At Gadabout, we’ve explored the most delightful routes on the rails over our 50 years in business. In 2018, we’re offering some of our favorites to you.

On May 13 and again on September 23, you can join us for a celebration of the Railways of California.

Over five days, those tours will take you on the glorious Amtrak Coast Starlight up the edge of California, on the Roaring Camp Railroad in the heart of the redwood forests, and on board the delightful Napa Valley Wine Train.

For something a little different, join us on a journey along the Colorado Railways, departing July 30.

That 12-day itinerary features an array of historic rail routes: the Durango-Silverton Railway, the Georgetown Loop Railroad, the Royal Gorge Railroad, the Cripple Creek Railroad, and more.
